Ooni Starter Bundles – Koda 16 vs Ooni Pro vs Ooni Karu Portable Pizza Oven Kits (Uuni)

I love starter bundles! When I bought my Vitamix blender, it came with 2 extra jugs, 6 books, DVDs, spatulas…. Everything I needed to get blending straight away. Ooni (or Uuni, as Ooni was formerly called) offers starter bundles on their portable pizza ovens. There’s a bundle for most of their pizza ovens, including the Ooni Koda 16, Ooni Pro, Ooni Koda (regular size), and Ooni Karu.

P.s. If you’re wondering whether to buy the Ooni Koda 16 or the Ooni Pro, read my comparison of the two pizza ovens!

The problem with bundles and pizza oven kits is that it can be so very hard to figure out what exactly is included. That’s what my intention is today: showing you exactly what is included in Ooni portable pizza oven starter bundles, starting with a comparison…

Ooni Starter Bundles – Ooni Koda 16 vs Ooni Pro vs Ooni Karu Kits

I’ll start with a table. We all love tables 😀 This is a table of what is included in the starter bundles. I won’t go into a full comparison of  Ooni pizza ovens here. I covered part of that in my Ooni Koda 16 vs Ooni Pro – Pizza Oven Feature Comparison article already. If you’d like to see a comparison of other Ooni ovens, let me know!

Please note that ALL prices in this article are at the time of writing. Check Ooni’s website for current pricing!

Are Ooni Pizza Oven Kits Worth it?

That’s the big question I suppose. Are Ooni’s pizza oven kits worth it?

My opinion…. no. I don’t believe you’re saving a whole lot of money by buying your Ooni in a bundle, unless you want to buy an Ooni Pro. What you do gain is convenience. You don’t need to find yourself a pizza peel for your oven. It conveniently comes in the kit, as does the pizza cutter.

However. Say you wanted to buy an Ooni Koda 16 (did I mention what a great choice that is?).

The Ooni Koda 16 will cost you $499. The kit comes with the 14″ pizza peel, but you can now choose the peel you want. Maybe you only make small pizza’s; you could add the 12″ pizza peel instead. Or, maybe you want to add the perforated 14″ pizza peel.

Regarding the perforations, Ooni mentions:

“Use the tapered peel edge to slide straight under pizza bases, while the perforations mean a perfectly cooked pizza every time as steam is able to quickly evaporate and excess flour falls away from the pizza base.

A super-sleek, hard anodised coating provides increased corrosion resistance and a hyper-smooth surface to guarantee a seamless experience when launching and retrieving pizzas.”

14″ Perforated Pizza PeelA standard 14″ peel costs $49.99 whereas the perforated 14″ peel costs $69.99. Let’s add the standard 14″ peel. Now we have the Ooni Koda 16 with a standard 14″ peel for $548.99.

You are now technically ready to bake a pizza in your Ooni pizza oven. You don’t need a pizza cutter to get started, although they are super handy.

For me, it’s about choices though. I probably would change the peel for a perforated peel and I wouldn’t add a pizza cutter because I’ve already got one.

Ooni offers a cover for the Ooni Koda 16 too, valued at $49.99. It doesn’t just protect your oven, it also gives you carrying-capability so you can take your Koda with you wherever you go. It’s even waterproof!

Ooni Pro Pizza Oven Kit

Pro Wood-Fired Bundle

Let’s look at the Ooni Pro kit. This bundle comes with quite a few things, including a cover which I really like. The cover only costs $49.99 so it’s not a big deal to add it separately, but to have it included in the kit is nice. The whole kit is a bit more “pro” than the other kits. A perforated peel rather than a standard peel. A cutter blade rather than a cutter wheel.

However… I, personally, would not necessarily want the gloves nor the cutter blade. So, what does it work out to be without the gloves and cutter?

The price of the kit is $699, so in this case, YES! Buy the bundle. You’re getting the cool blade cutter AND the gloves for free!

Ooni Karu Pizza Oven Bundle

Karu Wood-Fired Bundle Finally, a quick look at the Karu bundle.

It comes with a classic 12″ peel, a standard cutter wheel, and firestarters. Again, say I didn’t want the cutter, but I do want the firestarters because how on earth would I light the oven otherwise.

The Ooni Karu bundle is $425. Worth it? Nope.

Especially not if you wanted to add the 12″ perforated peel, which is not included in the bundle anyway. You can get a cover for the Ooni Karu too, valued at $39.99. It’s a carry cover which basically turns your pizza oven into a bag!

Ooni Pizza Oven Bundle Conclusion

If you want to buy the Ooni Pro, go for it. You’re getting great value with this kit and it includes the perforated peel. If you want to buy the Ooni Koda 16 or the Ooni Karu, make up your own kit. You’ll have the choice of standard peel or perforated, your choice of cutter, and you can choose if you want to add gloves, firestarters, etc.

By the way, did you know Ooni has some truly great tables for their pizza ovens? Here are the Ooni Koda and the Ooni Koda 16 on their tables! They’re tough, stainless steel, and come with lockable castor wheels – move them around easily.
